I am always interested to read the independent reviews about us on Trip Advsor and Booking.com. Each review is brought to the attention of the HoA team and of course positive reviews are always a cause to celebrate. We are never complacent, we never take good reviews for granted. We are only as good as the last comment… Our aim is to ensure an enjoyable stay although we strive to make it a FABULOUS stay if possible! The weather hasn’t really been on our side recently but guests are always happy to spend an evening in the library or lounge with a drink from the honesty bar and some good board games. Or choose a DVD from our library and relax in their comfortable bedroom. The choice of restaurants in Canterbury is impressive and we are always happy to explain the variety of options available whether is be fine dining or less expensive (but still very good!)

Oh my! I am so pleased that we have now finished all the restoration work. The little library is looking simply fab and very colourful. Its a favourite place to sit in the morning and read the days’ newspapers, I have to confess I am just a bit proud of this bijou room.
In preparation for some filming for a popular TV channel, I made sure that everything at the House of Agnes was fully up to spec with more funky phones into the bedrooms and added some cute items to perk the public areas up. The exterior is also looking pretty darn good and I am delighted with the feedback from guests who have appreciated the hard work.

Of course the highlight of a stay here is the warm welcome and excellent customer care given to all visitors of all nationalities.

We have just had the driest spring for a hundred years so I am pretty amazed at how our garden grows. Plenty of colour, fragrance and variety adorns the raised beds. In spite of the dry lawn we are happy that guests are making the most of it with tea or other ‘beverages’ out in the garden. Laughter abounds when the set of ‘boules’ makes an appearance and the guys get a bit competitive… Its so nice to see everyone enjoying themselves outside on the warm evenings.

You know that one job in the house that seems never to get finished? Well our library has been one of those jobs! Its floorboards had no supports; the chimney breast was about ready to fall down when we took the old panel board off and the wall nearly disintegrated whilst we were removing the 20 odd layers of wallpaper, and the rest, well; let’s leave it at that, shall we? Nevertheless, we now have a cute little library that is cosy, comfortable and actually pretty snazzy. New leather chairs are placed proudly next to the restored 17th Century fireplace and a huge afghan rug sits atop the renovated floor boards. I’ve finally been able to pull out my eclectic collection of books for guests to enjoy and it provides a lovely quiet corner to read the newspapers… all in all its great to see, after two and a half years, the final eyesore looking jolly glam!

The House of Agnes seems to be one of those places where our guests do the most romantic things! Its so adorable and exciting when a guest calls to book a room and tells us ‘ I am going to ask my girlfriend to marry me on Saturday, can you put champagne in the room at 9 o’clock please?’ We have to pretent we know nothing about it when they arrive to check in, yet we are JUST as excited (and nervous) as the poor groom-to-be!

Of course weddings are simply wonderful in our lovely house. It is perfectly adapted to small intimate weddings where family and friends have the opportunity to really cosy-down and enjoy each others company in the comfortable public areas and beautiful bedrooms. Breakfast next morning adds to the delightful ambiance as the headaches and laughter mingle with the delicious smell of freshly cooked home-cured bacon and homemade sausages. Alka Seltza is always at the ready for those who had ‘just a bit too much’ the previous night!

Many guests choose to stay with us for other occasions such as anniversaries and birthdays. We try to make sure everyone is well looked after and that any special requests are dealt with; whether it be a reservation for dinner in one of the fabulous local restaurants or bouquets, chocolates and wine in the room on arrival. Let us know in advance if you need anything special to make your occasion even more memorable.
